Successful 2010 Fundraiser For The John Kerr Foundation

Hey Gang,

I want to thank everyone who contributed to this year's wonderful fundraiser supporting The John Kerr Foundation on October 9^th at the Alameda Yacht Club. We should all be proud that we helped enrich the lives of those living with muscular dystrophy. For the second year this event was a tremendous success. I’m also proud to announce that we raised several thousand dollars for this worthy cause.

The BBQ dinner and appetizers were fantastic. Sandi and The Rockerfellers showcased their musical talents which added to the spirit of the event. And we had a mobile cigar lounge to spice things up... complete with leather couches and big screen TVs. It was also a pleasure to see the local newspaper include a nice article about the event. But for me, the highlight of the event was the scholarship presentation of $1,000.00 given to Jade Theriault.

Special thanks also go out to these individual people that made this event possible. I would like to thank Terry, Cindy, Steve, Jane, Tom, Dee, Wendy, Barbara, Tony, Peg, Cheryl, Doug, Shelley, Darlene, John, Jack, Scott, Evelyn, Rebecca, Jay, Nicole, Erich, Sue, Kevin, Sandi and The Rockerfellers, my sisters Kate and Mag, and John Kerr. Without their help, this event would not have been the same. Please forgive me if I forgot anyone.

Update On My Upcoming Charity Event For The John Kerr Foundation

Chaparral Suites Resort in Scottsdale Arizona

















Here's the latest haps for my upcoming charity event on Saturday, October 9th...

This event is getting better every day. We've added ice cream from world famous Fenton's Creamery to the dessert list and Bubi's Catering will be providing appertizers as a starter. And the raffle has ascended into the thousands of dollars in fantastic prizes, including a romantic stay on the historic Delta King Riverboat Hotel and a fabulous stay at the Chaparral Suites Resort in Scottsdale Arizona. Then for the sports minded, there will be an autographed major league baseball signed by the Cy Young Award winning pitcher Tim Lincecum of the SF Giants with a companion book on the history of the Giants signed by the author to compliment this valuable baseball. Also listed on the raffle is an amazing spa party package that will make a person melt, and we just got word that we will offer a roundtrip Southwest Airline ticket to anywhere in the continental US, plus over 50 other incredible prizes from local and national vendors...this will be a must attend event, so we’ll see you there!

The John Kerr Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the lives of those living with Muscular Dystrophy. Introducing A Man Of Inspiration

Dear Friends,

I would like to share an INSPIRATION with you. This inspiration is my cousin John Kerr. He has been living with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) since birth. Even though he has this disease, he is an extraordinarily blessed human being. He has dedicated his life to helping others and that’s why I’m sharing his joy and passion with you.

John Kerr was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. At the age of eighteen months he was diagnosed with the neuromuscular disease Spinal Muscular Atrophy. This is a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy that attacks the motor neurons in the spinal cord and directly affects the functionality of his muscles. Never able to sit up independently or crawl, John received his first electric wheelchair on his fifth birthday. This newfound independence buoyed John into a life that was no different than his peers. At the age of ten, John battled his first bout of pneumonia and doctors gave him six months to live. This became the first of many struggles with respiratory illnesses and numerous dire prognoses. However, with a strong sense of faith and family support, John overcame these challenges and forged a well-rounded life for himself.

John has never let this disease slow him down. John has been able to experience a number of adventures, including snorkeling twice in Hawaii, swimming with dolphins, and his biggest thrill - taking a Class III whitewater rafting trip down the American River. As time goes by and new physical challenges arise, John's passion for life and his desire to live it grow stronger.

A few years ago, John began thinking of ways he may be able to help others with his same condition and give something back to society. He decided to start a foundation. This foundation came to fruition with the formation of "The John Kerr Foundation" to enhance the lives of those living with Muscular Dystrophy.

His foundation helps those with Muscular Dystrophy through scholarships, providing medical care and equipment, organizing adventure related activities, and promoting independence and self worth. John’s eventual goal and dream is to form "The John Kerr Foundation Summer Camp for Children with Muscular Dystrophy.”

I also wanted to give back. I had been searching for a way to share my soul and make a difference. My searches then lead me to John and his foundation. So I decided that I would create an annual fundraiser as my way of giving back. The first event was in 2009 at the Alameda Yacht Club. It was a huge success and I can't wait for the next one.
